The focus of this issue is organ builders rather than the instruments: after all, you cannot have one without the other. Andrew Scott has written about the need for, and recruitment of, apprentices. Harry Bramma takes a historically informed look at organ builders’ signature styles, questioning whether they are necessary. Four organ builders from around the world have also bravely discussed their thoughts on how instruments are created.

Description

The focus of this issue is organ builders rather than the instruments: after all, you cannot have one without the other. Andrew Scott has written about the need for, and recruitment of, apprentices. Harry Bramma takes a historically informed look at organ builders’ signature styles, questioning whether they are necessary. Four organ builders from around the world have also bravely discussed their thoughts on how instruments are created.

The spectacularly colourful cover is the work of artist Andreas d’Orfey, otherwise known as a calligrapher in Munich. Finding an instrument so rich in colour was a delight.

Also, as Sir David Willcocks reached 95 earlier this year, Stephen Cleobury and John Rutter have both written intensely personal tributes to the life and work of this iconic musician.
