Description
For many organists and choir-trainers, collecting Anglican chants is a passion often triggered in adolescence. It’s generally followed by increasingly chromatic attempts at composing them, until common-sense eventually prevails when the would-be composer realises that few choirs can actually sing such perfumed creations. In this issue we lift the lid on the world of the Anglican chant, as chant collector extraordinaire, Peter Kirk, tells us of his thirty year quest to collect as many as possible, and from as many sources as are available. So far he has over 20,000 chants – an astonishing number.
